Abstract

ABSTRACT: Organizational culture is a very relevant concept in research, however, little is known about which variables can predict the presence of different types of culture. In this research, we have carried out two studies. In the first, we have adapted the Organizational Culture Assessment Instrument (OCAI, Cameron & Quinn, 2006) into Spanish with Exploratory Factorial Analysis (EFA) using a Spanish sample of managers (n1 = 246) and Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) with a Latin American sample (n2 = 510). In the second study, we analyzed which intrinsic and extrinsic variables can predict the presence of the cultures, using step-wise regressions. The results indicate that the OCAI in Spanish retains the cultures Clan, Market and Hierarchy, but excludes the Ad-hoc. In the second study, we find that cultures can be predicted by intrinsic variables. However, against what was expected, extrinsic variables have practically no predictive capacity.
