Résumé

As a small contribution to the Ten Years of Education in Sustainable Development (2005-2015) this article defends the need for a major change in formal social education, since the future of sustainable development demands it. Society is changing, and becoming more and more complex; certainties concerning reality and knowledge are also changing. Cartesian reductionist logic must be replaced by a «dialogic» to approach global problems from a systemic point of view. People are beginning to be aware that they form part of the planet, and without abandoning their territorial roots, feel more solidarity as regards present and future problems. In the face of these challenges, Education in Sustainable Development must opt for a cross-section curriculum that will promote «comprehensiveness », anthropo-ethics and know-how, and knowing how to be citizens for whom democracy is a way of life.
