Abstract

The Mn mineralizations are embedded in the Early Silurian materials. They occur as levels, a few mms. thick, alternating with other chert levels of similar thickness, and are constituted bypyrolusite, psilomelane, cryptomelane, braunite and mycrocrystalline quartz. These mineralizations, which are considered as syngenetic and produced by an exhalative hydrothermal process, are originated by precipitation of Mn, Si and Fe which were carried to the deep sea by hydrotermal solutions associated with volcanic phenomena.
