Abstract

The Mn mineralizations are embedded in the Early Silurian materials. They occur as levels, a few mm thick, alternating with other chert levels of similar thickness, and are constituted by pyrolusite, braunite and cryptomelane. These mineralizations, which are considered as syngenetic and produced by an exhalative volcanic process, are originated on an unstable continental plat - form by precipitation of Mn and SiO2, which were carried to the basin by hydrothermal solutions associated with volcanic phenomena.
