Abstract

The editors of scientific journals of spanish-speaking social sciences are engaged in a debate: the sole use and (almost) exclusive of Spanish as a language of science, or the openness to other models in its publications based on ilingualism(English) or even on multilingualism. We firmly commit to the necessary linguistic adaptation of digital magazines the global media environment, the international ization of scientific journals and their market opening. And from our point of view, these facts go to expand the languages used, beyond the Spanish, both to publish and collect articles and research, to carry out the dissemination of their actions, for ex ample, through their web portals and social networks. This notice aims to understand the languages used by scientific journals in social sciences not only items that collect and publish, but also the languages they use in their internet portals and social networking profiles, like Facebook and Twitter. In this way we try to know through a simple analysis the degree of internationalization of the journals. This study arises from the discussion occurred on this subject last July at the First Latin American Meeting of Editors of Scientific Journals held at the University of La Laguna in Tenerife. With it we aim to clarify and show the real language situation in which there are the social science journals in spanish
