This chapter summarises the most relevant aspects of phonological skills and the beneficial repercussions they have on the process of learning to read. The aim is to demonstrate, once again, the importance of this skill in the process of acquiring written language, especially in those pupils who have difficulties. In addition, a programme designed to work on phonemic awareness at an early age as a preventive strategy is included, as well as the results obtained after its application and evaluation.
