In reading comprehension there are two essential types of skills or, better said, the product of both: the specific ones in reading, or written words recognition processes, and the no specific ones of written language. In this chapter the second type is examinate, mainly the linguistic skills that are shared by the comprehension of oral, written and signed texts; that is, lexical competences of the reader (or knowledge about sense of words), just as the morphosyntactic analysis processes and the semantic integration.
