Abstract

Vegetation is sampled from four eroded áreas of the province of Salamanca. By applying the correspondences analysis to each of them, the planes defined by the first two axes order the different strata limited according to the degree of erosión. At the same time, the most representative species stand out and these, in spite of the differences between the four áreas, show a similar tendency with respect to their position on the gradient studied. The concentraron of the sampling units is generally greater as the degree of erosión increases, which demonstrates the convergence of the vegetation in the face of the rigorous environmental factors. The covering and the number of species increase toward the less eroded áreas, whereas in the case of evenness, the opposite is true. From this polarity between uniformity and richness (number of species) controversial diversity relationships may be observed.
