Resumen

Due to a model of unbridled economic development, we are facing an unprecedented environmental degradation. One of the main agents that stands out to contribute negatively to environmental contamination is the fashion industry. Currently, the society is widely dominated by the “cult of novelty” through strategies of programmed obsolescence and advertising, reflecting in the explotation of natural resourses and pollution during the manufacturing process and management of the goods and services. In this essay we aim to discuss the environmental impacts of the fashion industry and the importance of applying the principle of sustainable development and other several considerations that must be made in this sector of the economy.
