Abstract

The objective of this paper is to validate the winter precipitation patterns by comparison of the results derived from observations, reanalysis (NCEP/NCAR) and climatic modelling (ECHAM4/- OPYC3 and HadCM3). Principal Component Analysis was applied to obtain the spatial and temporal structures. The results indicate good agreement among the spatial patterns. Very high significant correlation was obtained between observed data and reanalysis; however, model data do not reconstruct the observed variability over the Iberian Peninsula.
