Distribución de picaduras de garrapatas retiradas a personas durante la pandemia del COVID-19 en Castilla y León

Résumé

Ticks are hematophagous ectoparasites with great importance worldwide due to their capacity of pathogenic transmission. In 2020, a global SARS-CoV-2 pandemic occurred, altering human behavior and tick ecosystems. The aim of the study is to investigate the distribution of ticks extracted from humans in Castilla y León during the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic and its comparison with the previous and subsequent years. 5010 ticks extracted from people on community health centers were received during 2019, 2020 and 2021. In the laboratory, they were identified and the epidemiological data of the bitten patient was collected for the subsequent preparation of a database. A descriptive analysis between pre-pandemic, pandemic and post-pandemic periods was conducted according to variables divided into three classes: population groups, tick species and geographic and temporal distribution. From the results obtained in this comparison, it can be concluded that, while some variables remained stable, the pandemic caused changes in the number of reported bites, in their temporal and species distribution and in the distribution of bites in some population groups.
