Resumo

Both in doctrine and in legislation there have been important advances regarding the protection of people with disabilities in order to guarantee the equitable treatment of those with specific functional characteristics. The examination of communication difficulties -comprehension and/or expression- had much less development for those who must deal with the administration of justice, either as procedural parties, or as witnesses forced to testify, in any of the jurisdictional areas. This study tries to identify the disorders that are considered relevant for the procedural activity, the possibilities of overcoming these difficulties through the support of a specific type of facilitator: the speech therapist, and the normative provisions, to analyze what is the regulation in our legal system and what are the shortcomings that still need to be overcome.
