Abstract
Constructions such as those underlined in Además de que sentía admiración por Salvá, la historiografía se adaptaba muy bien a sus cualidades; Le interesaban todos los temas, salvo la disponibilidad léxica; No hizo la carrera en Sevilla, sino en Salamanca offer difficulties of analysis that invite reflection. Semantically they express primarily inclusion or exclusion (or other relationships linked to these), but they do not fit well into any of the functional labels that we are used to handling. This paper presents the concept of«reply function» or«replied function» or«r-function», describes its characteristics and explores to what extent it can contribute to the clarification of the functional analysis indicated.
