Abstract
The research study here reported investigates the arithmetic thinking processes evidenced by elementary students when posing problems in a semi-structured situation. Using data from interviews and a questionnaire, we study the student´s conception of problems and of their utility, and we analyze the type of problems formulated focusing on their coherence, their operative structure and their number of stages.
