Abstract
Physical inactivity is one of the main challenges of health, in this sense an opportunity is the active displacement, understood as the behavior of going to the educational center by means of transports that entail an energetic expense (walking, cycling...). The main objective of this thesis is to know the barriers that people have in order not to travel actively to the educational centers in Extremadura. Throughout the thesis different methodologies have been used. At first, cross-sectional studies were carried out, then a study for the validation of the instrument and finally a study using the Delphi method. The first finding was the low level of active travel among students. This has led to the need to delve deeper into the barriers to active travel. Among the results on barriers, the following stand out: a) greater distance is associated with greater perception of barriers, b) accompaniment by other students increases the probability of active commuting. Subsequently, the study with teachers showed low levels of active travel. Analyzing the relationship between motivation and perception of barriers, a negative relationship was found between intrinsic motivation and perception of barriers. In the studies carried out, two new instruments have been designed to improve future research and intervention programs, one applied to commuting to extracurricular activities and the other to measure the walkability of school environments. Finally, an analysis of interventions and proposals for future interventions to increase the levels of active commuting have been carried out.
