Abstract

There are still things to discover about the famous composer, choirmaster and professor Sebastián de Vivanco, about whom we will try to discuss some questions taking advantage of the 400th anniversary of his death. Thus, through several sources, especially the most direct archival work, we will delve into various data and issues, which will make us reflect and complete a little more his biography, such as his doubtful date of birth, some possible relatives or the location of his home in Salamanca. On the other hand, within this Salamanca’s context, and after providing some details about Artus Taberniel, we will focus on the conclusion of his famous book of motets, as well as a new work that also took place in 1614. In this case thanks to the impression of Susana Muñoz, Taberniel’s widow to whom, after his death, the master entrusted the printing of those last commissions that do not seem to be very profitable.
