Abstract
It is fundamental in the history of Spanish to acknowledge the research work performed and the solid method developed by Menéndez Pidal, who brougth the level of our language up to that of other Romance languages. The changes that have subsequently taken place in the history of Spanish have not produced theoretical revolutions, and nor have the discrepancies given rise to struggles between ancient and modern schools of thought.
