Abstract
The «afro-pesimism» that prevailed only ten years ago has turned into «afro-optimism». Subsaharan Africa shows a sustained economic growth and the holding of multi-party elections has become the rule. Yet progress is still fragile, poverty remains widespread and conflicts and terrorism pose a serious threat. Old and new powers compete to expand their influence and strengthen their relations with the continent. The upcoming EU-Africa Summit will be a good opportunity to revitalize the Euro-African association.
