Resumo
The imperial regalia were consolidated as one of the main sources of legitimation of the Japanese sovereigns through its use in the different stages of the solemn process of enthronement and the privilege of its possession. The goal of this paper is to analyze how a heterodoxe interpretation of its supernatural nature spread among the scholarly culture of the medieval period. Therefore, in this paper the conceptual evolution of the ceremonies connected with accession to the imperial throne and the symbology of the insignia associated with the tennō will be examined to understand the reasons that led in a progressive conversion of the certifying effect of these sacred instruments until the stablishment of the revolutionary Meiji government.
