Abstract
The access to freshwater along human history has been a source of power and the root of disputes. We also know of the unfortunate experiences of once powerful civilisations that collapsed due the freshwater scarcity or their poor freshwater management. The aim of this study is to undertake a multidisciplinary analysis of freshwater scarcity in the world, focusing particularly on certain factors, though not all, and without ever losing sight of the overall objective of sustainability: the scarcity freshwater concept, the demographic pressure, the water use in agriculture, the scarcity freshwater indicators, the technology role and the shared water management.
