Zusammenfassung

In the following work we will investigate the role of governors in Portuguese America (Brazil) at the time when it belonged to the Hispanic Monarchy (1580-1640). The post of governor general was fundamental, as he was the link between Madrid/Lisbon and the colonial territories, due to the fact that he was the person incharge of combining the political guidelines and military strategies that emanated from the political center, as well as being in charge of directing, qualifying and even getting involved in the reformist project that was being tried to be carried out. Weare the refore talking about the main imperial agent of the Monarchy in Portuguese America.
