Abstract

This paper studies the theater play De tal siembra talcosecha (1889) written by the Andalusian writer Ángeles López de Ayala, a republican freethinker, masón and feminist, and focuses on the analysis of the male protagonist who representsthe model of normative masculinity of the middle and upperclasses in fin-de-siécle Spain. This model of hegemonic masculinity reveáis numerous contradictions of patriarchy and moves towards a different type of man. The basis of thisanalysis is Gender Studies and fundamentally the study of masculinities
