Résumé

Introduction. The visibility at world-wide level of scientific literature is possible today thanks to bibliographical databases and Internet, being the impact factor (IF) the best actual form to measure it. With this work the authors wish to know the capacity of the Spanish Dentistry Faculties to generate articles with IF. Material and method. The 46 journals with IF included in the Dentistry, Oral Surgery and Medicine index of the 2003 Journal Citation Report Science Edition were reviewed. The period studied was between 199 5 and the first trimester of 2005 inclusively. All the articles published by Spanish Dentistry Faculties were collected. Results. In the studied period a progressive increase in article generation with IF is observed. Very dynamic work groups that generate good part of the total visible articles are clearly recognizable. Conclusion. The capacity to produce articles with IF does not seem to depend on quantitative factors (e.g. educational or administrative faculty personnel), but on qualitative factors.
