Abstract

This investigation analyzes applicability and use of the ethnography as methodology to explore the research in the information science area. It aims to rescue in the literature of the area the recognition of ethnography as methodological shape in the scientific construction, starting from reflections on this research method as form to recognize subjective values and to allow a critical glance on the research in the field. It recognizes ethnography as a contribution to the knowledge administration inside of a multicultural context, because the information culture in an emerging perspective is admitted in the area. This understanding requests values and coherent anthropological instruments with interdisciplinary areas that compose this scientific field. The methodology is structured coherent with the qualitative method, assuming the posture of a research of the bibliographical type, whose data are presented in a descriptive way with an interpretative analysis of the several authors' speech, to prioritize the qualitative representation of the knowledge. It presents several evidences of the importance of the culture, which is joined implicitly in the construction of information, and that consequently it will generate a new knowledge, reinforcing the appropriate use of the tool ethnographic for best to explore the theme.
