We describe in this paper part of a case study that analyzes the generalization process that future elementary school teachers carry out when working with arithmetic expressions that allow generalization. Data comes from an interview to two couples of students, in which each couple worked together in solving four different written tasks. Here we focus our attention in the results of a couple in the first task. Starting from the comparison of the generalization statements of both students, their similarities and differences, we present some conclusions about their generalization process.
