Resumo

The areas of Castilla y León bordering the Portuguese North and Central regions contain 37 municipalities, characterized by an agricultural economy. They encompass the districts of Vitigudino and Ciudad Rodrigo in the Province of Salamanca and of Sanabria, Aliste and Sayago in the Province of Zamora, Along the 349 km borderline the strip is endowed with multiple resources linked to both natural environment and cultural heritage, which form a potencial for tourist development. EU structural funds and initiatives that intend to search alternatives to the traditional economic base have enlarged the local potential for various types of tourism. Private businessmen benefiting from public facilities have created new types of tourist products.
