Abstract
This article is concerned with information about medical terms provided by dictionaries aimed at general speakers of a given language. An analysis of examples of entries in specialized dictionaries, and particularly in general dictionaries, suggests that this information is not always adequate for the nonspecialist speaker. We suggest that there is a need to produce good specialized dictionaries for the common reader that make it easier for speakers to apprehend technical terms and understand their correct meaning.
