Abstract

• Introduction: A pacemaker comprises a generator and leads that sense and stimulate the heart muscle to contract. Both the implantation technique and bearing one are not devoid of possible complications. • Case description : Hypertensive, bradycardic, 88-year-old woman bearing a permanent pacemaker in DDD mode who is admitted to the emergency room due to syncope. She is diagnosed with device lead breakdown. After having replaced it, she is admitted to the floors and falls again into bradycardia, thus generating this clinical case. The individualized care plan, based on Virginia Henderson’s conceptual model and on the NANDA-NOC-NIC taxonomies, had a main diagnosis of decreased cardiac output. • Reflection: Nursing interventions applied to this patient were key to solving the collaboration problem having emerged and can be applied in similar cases
