Abstract

The main objective of this article is the analysis of the micro-structural changes which are generated during necking of different pearlitic steel wires, belonging to a real cold drawing chain. For the completion of the study, the different wires have been tested on request for tension without reaching the total fracture by surface separation, aborting the test during the full development of the necking of each specimen. The micro-structural study has focused on measuring the interlaminar spacing between ferrite and cementite sheets that make up the perlite colonies as well as conducting acute Vickers indentation tests to obtain micro-hardness in the different areas of the necking area.
