Abstract

The subject of Software Engineering is part of the curricula of most of the degrees in Computer Engineering offered by Spanish universities. In the context of the University of Salamanca, the topic is taught from the second year through three courses. Students who study the topic for the first time face a large number of new concepts, as well as the need to develop abstract thinking. This situation poses a challenge for software engineering teachers. In order to address the problem and improve learning outcomes, a global methodological change has been proposed based on the incorporation of project-based learning as the central axis, as well as other techniques associated with active learning. The work aims to describe the methodological change and analyzes the results obtained during the last three academic years (2016-17, 2017-18, 2018-19).
