Resumen

Several studies on knightly invenciones - literary compositions produced in jousts and tournaments during the fifteenth century - have been collected in the Cancionero general, the Cancionero de Londres and the Cancionero geral de Garcia Resende. However, the development of this theme as a literary landmark of the Siglo de Oro has yet to be fully investigated. Although the model of cancioneros with a section devoted to invenciones became extinct in the mid-sixteenth century, some verses (letras) composed during this period on the theme of knightly jousts and tournaments have been preserved in print in manuscript form. This paper analyses their writing and transmission during this period by comparing three important festival books describing a tournament in Zaragoza in 1630 and two manuscript accounts of tournaments held in 1590
