Abstract

Objective: To identify the validity and reliability of assessments of hamstring shortness and their applicability in daily clinical practice. Materials and methods: We reviewed the literature on assessment of hamstring elasticity and discussthe most relevant articles. Results: Many authors have addressed hamstring elasticity. The rigorousness of these studies andtheir scientific validity vary, depending not only on the method used but also on other factors, such asthe population studied. Despite these shortcomings, there is some scientific evidence attesting to thevalidity and reliability of the assessments, thus supporting their use. Conclusion: There is a need to unify the criteria concerning the evaluation of hamstring elasticity, alt-hough the scientific evidence supports the use of current tests.
