Rare diseases have been a growing problem since the end of the 20th century with important implications for the current social health model. Its significance is evidenced by the priority implementation of specific health policies. These changes have been promoted by patients and relatives who claimed their rights. The objectives of this research are to find out how the category «rare diseases» has been built in the island geographical area of the Canary Islands with greater potential obstacles to responding to the problem
