Resum

Lambing interval has been calculated from data of 34 flocks (20 Assaf breed, 8 Churra, 6Castellana) with a total number of 14524 sheep (Cooperativa Asovino). The effect of breed andreproductive intensification on this interval has also been studied. Flocks were divided into ASSAF andLOCAL (Churra and Castellana) or HIGH INTENSIFICATION (4 or more mating periods/year) andLOW INTENSIFICATION (3 or less mating periods/year). Lambing interval was not the theorical (243days), being significantly longer in Assaf flocks in comparison with Local flocks (305.4±4.9 vs.267.6±5.3 days, respectively, p<0.001). Regarding reproductive intensification, no statistical differenceswere observed (286.8±5.8 vs. 292.2±7.3 days, p=0,59). These results indicate that lambing intervaldepends more on milk production of the considered breed, rather than on the reproductive model.
