Resumen

The aim of this work was to characterize some growth parameters of Alcarreña, an endangered Spanish sheep breed, such as live weight at lambing, at 30 and 45 days, and average daily gain. Sex, age of the mother, type of lambing and season were considered in the model. A total number of 1001 records from 2010 and 2011 were obtained in a commercial farm in Cuenca. Mean live weight al lambing, at 30 and at 45 d (weaning) were, respectively, 3.49±0.04, 9.54±0.06 kg and) 12.78±0.08 kg. Mean daily gain from lambing to 30 d was 202±2 g/d, from 30 to 45 d 183±6 g/d and from lambing to weaning 195±3 g/d. Single lambs were heavier at lambing that twins or triplets (p<0.001). Lambs from first lambing ewes were lighter at 30 d (p<0,05) and those born on August or December were heavier at weaning (p<0.05) than the rest of lambing periods.
