Abstract

Turning Point is a learning tool based on test type questions intercalated among slides of a class presentation. Students provided with an electronic emitter device answer immediately. Statistics of anonimous results appear on the screen at the end of class. Turning Point cost exceeds our budget and it is not enough for our number of students. Based on the same idea, an alternative is presented here: we intercalate questions in a Power Point presentation. At the end of the class we select students which are registered by a card reader by their university IDs cards. We make a Moodle test with the questions of class to be answered by the registered students within the same day at an accorded time. Next class we present Moodle “diagram of marks” and “analysis of items” from the test. Lower than 50% correct answers motivate to repeat in the next lecture the explanation of the concept questioned. After finishing all lessons of a matter, all of the questions are collected in a new test, which is opened to all for autoevaluation. Marks attained do not count for final evaluation. This activity is affordable, accepted by all of the students. Selection of students at the end of the lecture makes that all of them pay attention; It does not overload students and lectures with work; prevent “surprise factor” as one stressor for students in the final examination test.
