Abstract

Cinema recreates social representations through the transmission of values and models that may conflict with egalitarian principles and require reflection by viewers. This paper analyzes the romantic cinema of the first decade of the 21st century as a creator of images of couples corresponding to non-egalitarian relationships. The 20 highest grossing romantic films were selected for effective reflection and critical dialogue based on the principles of Educommunication. A mixed qualitative (six in-depth interviews with experts) and quantitative (questionnaire to 251 university students) methodology was used. Cinema was positively valued by students and experts as a cultural product that facilitates the analysis, reflection and deconstruction of images, which can confront the values of egalitarian and plural societies and, in this sense, it is considered an excellent tool to work on the gender perspective in the classroom.
