Abstract

Listeriosis is a food poisoning caused by the listeria monocytogenes bacillus, its main route of transmission is through contaminated food, although it is also transmitted vertically, transplacentally. Its incidence has increased in recent years and it is considered an underdiagnosed disease since in up to 29% of cases it is asymptomatic. Pregnancy is a state of immunosuppression that makes pregnant women more vulnerable to infection. Although this infection usually occurs as a mild and self-limited condition in pregnant women, the importance of prevention and treatment of the disease lies in the high rates of fetal mortality that it can cause (40-50%).
