Mercedes Cerón Peña studied for her BA at the University of Salamanca, before moving to London to complete her MA and PhD at University College London. Her thesis discusses the development of genre painting in late eighteenth-century Spain, with special attention to Francisco de Goya’s work. She was a Junior Research Fellow at Worcester College, University of Oxford, where she studied the print collection of Francis Douce (1757-1834). She has worked as a cataloguer, researcher, and documentation assistant at the British Museum (Department of Prints and Drawings), the National Gallery, the Ashmolean Museum, and the British Library.
