Research group: SIMULACIÓN NUMÉRICA Y CÁLCULO CIENTÍFICO

Doctor by the Universidad de Salamanca with the thesis Asimilación de datos, validación e integración en gis de un modelo de simulación de incendios forestales 2018. Supervised by Dr. María Isabel Asensio Sevilla, Dr. J. M. Cascón, Dr. Luis Ferragut Canals.

Diego Prieto Herráez, Technical Telecommunications Engineer (speciality in Telecommunications Systems) (2006) from the University of Valladolid, obtaining the “Extraordinary End of Degree Award” recognition for his excellent academic results, began his professional career within the area of system administration working for the company Telefónica Research and Development (TID). Parallel to this first professional contact, he graduated as a Senior Telecommunications Engineer (2009) at the University of Valladolid. He has complemented his training with the completion of the Master's Degree in Cartographic Geotechnologies in Engineering and Architecture (2013) from the Universities of Salamanca and Valladolid, obtaining the “Extraordinary Master's Award” recognition. In 2009, after completing his studies as a Senior Engineer, he began his research within the Numerical Simulation and Scientific Calculation research group (SINUMCC) of the University of Salamanca, in which he has been working on the mathematical modeling of environmental problems. and in which he carried out his Doctoral Thesis entitled “Data assimilation, validation and integration in GIS of a forest fire simulation model” (2018) within the doctoral program “Geotechnologies applied to Construction, Energy and Industry” of the Universities from Salamanca and Vigo, for which he obtained the “Extraordinary Doctorate Award” recognition. Since 2018 he has been working on optimizing the integration of renewable energies in the electrical system within the research group Information Technologies for the Intelligent Digitalization of Objects and Processes (TIDOP) of the University of Salamanca. Since 2020 he has been part of the Catholic University of Ávila, where he carries out teaching activities related to Computer Engineering. His research work has been carried out within 1 European research project, 4 national research projects, 3 regional research projects, 6 R&D contracts with private companies in which he has collaborated as a researcher and a predoctoral scholarship during doctoral studies. The results of his research have led to 11 publications in international journals indexed in the Journal Citation Report, and 3 more publications in non-indexed journals. He has contributed to different conferences with 16 papers presented at 5 international and 11 national conferences.
