Ricardo J. Gómez Nieto is a permanent professor in the Department of Cell Biology and Pathology at the University of Salamanca. He has conducted research in the field of auditory neuroscience at renowned institutions in the United States, including the University of Utah and the University of Connecticut. His professional experience includes several projects at the multinational pharmaceutical company Merck Animal Health, and he has a strong background in teaching, publishing, and scientific outreach. Currently, he is working on three research areas: 1) Morphological and functional bases underlying the inhibition of the auditory startle reflex; 2) Neurobiological basis of complex auditory functions of the middle ear reflex; and 3) Characterization of the GASH/Sal experimental model for the study of audiogenic seizures. Beyond his research, he directs the University Master's Degree in "Communication Disorders: Neuroscience of Hearing and Language" and is a key member of leading research groups on audiomotor disorders and brain plasticity at IBSAL and INCYL.
