Doctor by the Universidad de Salamanca with the thesis Bases morfologicas y funcionales de la inhibición del reflejo auditivo de sobresalto 2006. Supervised by Dr. María Dolores López García.

Ricardo Gómez Nieto is an Associate Professor in the Department of Cell Biology and Pathology at the University of Salamanca. He has conducted research in the field of auditory neuroscience at renowned institutions in the United States, such as the University of Utah and the University of Connecticut. His professional experience includes various projects at the multinational pharmaceutical company Merck Animal Health, and he has a strong background in teaching, publishing, and scientific outreach. Currently, he is working in three research areas: 1) Morphological and functional bases underlying the inhibition of the auditory startle reflex; 2) Neurobiological basis of complex auditory functions of the middle ear reflex; and 3) Characterization of the GASH/Sal experimental model for the study of audiogenic seizures. He serves as the Director of the University Master on “Communication Disorders: Neuroscience of Hearing and Speech" and is part of the Research Group on Audiomotor Disorders and Reflex Epilepsies at the Institute for Biomedical Research of Salamanca (IBSAL). He is also a “Neurosciences of Castilla y León" Excellence Unit at the University of Salamanca.
